Containers not to use for vegetable container gardening

Asked April 24, 2019, 8:55 PM EDT

What types of containers might be toxic that we need to be careful of using for Container Vegetable Gardening was the question. Ideas on toxic and non-toxic used vs new containers. Like galvanized steel containers, tires, type of wood not to use and what about larger plastic tubs.

Most containers that are made of regular plastic are ok to use such as flower pots. Anything that was used for food grade products is fine. Obviously treated lumber is not ok or anything that was painted. Galvanized steel is ok. I would not use tires for edibles.
