Dripping River Birch

Asked April 24, 2019, 8:29 PM EDT

It seems like it has slowed down now but for several days maybe even a couple of weeks a limb on my Riverbirch was dripping almost like a spout. It felt and smelled like water. I had this vision of the tree pulling up water from the ground and then using the cut limb as a spout. It might’ve been one limb that I had trimmed the last fall .

Dakota County Minnesota birch sap

Sap running from wounds from pruning in spring is common just like maples. The running sap does not hurt the tree.
