Yellow jacket wasp repellant for raspberry bed
I was told by an environment advocate guy to spray a combination of peppermint extract, mild soap and water mixture on raspberry bed prior to yellow jackets showing up. Last year stung 4 times. Anyway I have no idea of a mixture formula. Any help available?

Homemade mixtures are unreliable and not recommended for this use. There are a number of effective yellowjacket wasp traps on the market. Depending on the size of the raspberry planting, you could use one or two strategically placed traps to contain the wasps during the harvest season. Of course, this will not prevent them from stinging if they are nesting in your raspberry bed. In that case, eliminating (or avoiding) the nest is the only way to prevent being stung by those wasps. Yellowjacket wasps nest in the ground, usually in abandoned rodent burrows, they are sensitive to vibrations, and can be very aggressive in defense of the nest.
