Evergreen brown needles

Asked April 22, 2019, 11:29 AM EDT

Some of our spruce and pine trees have areas of dead or brown needles. They are about 8' and transplanted two years ago, have been healthy until this spring. See attached photos. Can you help us identify the problem? Thanks Tom

There are numerous reasons for Spruce and Pine tree decline. If trees are near roads they could be affected by de-icing. There are other causes and from you photos it is difficult to determine. I have attached a link below that has information as well as some photos. If the full trees are declining I would recommend having an arborist from a tree care company come and evaluate them. https://apps.extension.umn.edu/garden/diagnose/plant/evergreen/pine/needleshalfgreen.html
