want to transplant nandina from raised bed ,12 ," to various places and destroy bed. ? proposed procedure--cut nandina to about 18", remove sides of bed, cut root mass into 16by16"blocks --with sharp shovel ,cut parallel to real ground level under blocks and transplant plants. Is this an appropriate method to make these transplants ?
Unfortunately Nandina has become a foreign invasive plant in Maryland, moving into parks and wild areas and out-competing native plants that our natural ecosystem needs. We would not recommend increasing it.
That said, we are not aware of any particular requirements for transplanting it. Here is our webpage that has transplanting information: https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/topics/planting-process
