Covey weeping redbud tree

Asked April 21, 2019, 12:23 AM EDT

I have a Covey weeping redbud tree that I planted 9 years ago. I think it has produced baby trees in my yard (or another upright redbud has). Would baby trees from my Covey redbud grow up to be weeping redbuds, or will its babies grow as upright redbuds? Can I train a baby redbud tree to curve down and grow in a weeping shape? From the little I could find online, it sounds like the Covey is grown from grafting, which made me think that the only way to get another Covey was to buy one, not grow it from seeds from my Covey.

The weeping redbud is grafted. The seedlings will grow up to be a regular redbud and cannot be trained into a weeping redbud. You will have to purchase a weeping redbud.
