Peonies don’t smell

Asked April 20, 2019, 3:31 PM EDT

Are there any varieties of peonies that do not smell or could it be caused by something else?Mine look just like my neighbor’s but hers have no smell and mine are extremely fragrant. The neighboring the other side has a mix of both.

Yes, peonies vary in the amount of fragrance they have. Some have more than others. Generally speaking they are more fragrant in the morning or evening hours. There are so many varieties of peonies and some varieties do look alike. If your peonies are the same variety my guess is that perhaps the one with no fragrance has less ideal growing conditions but that is just a guess. I would wager you have different varieties.
