Evergreen bent from heavy snow

Asked April 16, 2019, 9:42 PM EDT

I have a very thin pine tree (ponderosa, I think), 3.5 inch diameter by 15 feet tall. It is bent over on the top from heavy snow and will not stand up straight. We have tried to stake but that does not fix the top. Is there a way to fix this problem? Thanks! Nancy, Parker CO

April,

Good morning. We are wondering if the weight of the snow could have damaged the leader and caused a break. If possible, we are recommending that you examine the top of the tree that is bent over to determine if any damage has occured. It might be possible to save the top of the tree. We recommend that you contact an arborist for assistance.
