Pine tree tops dying

Asked April 15, 2019, 1:29 PM EDT

I have pine trees that are over 100 years old. The tops are dying. Is there anything I can do and what causes this?

The first step would be to get an accurate diagnosis. Plant specimens can be sent to the ISU Plant and Insect Diagnostic Clinic. The clinic's website is https://hortnews.extension.iastate.edu/pidc

Unfortunately the trees are at least 20 tall so a sample will not happen.

You could sent the clinic several photographs. That might be helpful.

Another option would be to contact a local arborist. They might be able to make an onsite visit.
