Pruning scrub oaks - too late in the season?

Asked April 14, 2019, 5:22 PM EDT

Hi - we've been pruning and limbing the scrub oaks and madrones on our property this winter. Still have quite a few we'd like to do, but I read that oaks shouldn't be pruned in the spring, as it leaves them susceptible to oak wilt. Is this an issue in Southern Oregon? Any issues with pruning madrones this time of year? Thanks!

Thank you for your question. As you thought, oaks should not be pruned between March and October, as explained in this Extension article: I hope this is helpful.
