Butterflies in Hillsdale County, MI

Asked April 12, 2019, 6:58 PM EDT

I have host plants for Monarchs (milkweed) and Black Swallowtails (dill & fennel) in my garden. I'm looking at adding a few more butterfly host plants to my garden this year. What would you recommend in my area? Thanks for your help!

The potential list of caterpillar host plant species is lengthy, but some groups of plants that support a lot of different caterpillars can be summed up as clovers, asters, thistles, wild mustards, native grasses (like big or little bluestem), willows, wild cherry and wild blueberries. Except for the grasses, the rest of these are good nectar sources for adult butterflies as well.
