Invasive plant

Asked April 12, 2019, 3:55 PM EDT

Hello. This plant just appeared in my yard this year perhaps from fill dirt that was delivered. It seems to be aggressive and proliferates rapidly. After discovering this plant in my yard, I now see if everywhere.....in the area. What is it? Is it beneficial? Can if be contained or irradiated? Thanks in advance.

Baltimore County Maryland invasive lesser celandine groundcover

This looks like lesser celandine, an invasive plant. Management of lesser celandine is very difficult and may require a combination of techniques. This can take time. Do not expect management in one season.

See our website and resource links for more information on management options.

This is a tough plant on some of our Maryland native plants so it is worth it to keep trying to manage it, to the extent that you are willing/able.
