Crabgrass Control

Asked April 11, 2019, 7:41 AM EDT

I wanted to know if I apply a pre emergent crabgrass preventative to a lawn with about 1 inch of snow and warmer temperatures in the forecast for the next week. Will it have any effect on the application or not.

Oakland County Michigan lawns and turf crabgrass preemergent

Hello,

Use are a little too early for applying pre-emergent crabgrass control. Let the snow melt first. One way to tell when it is time, is to watch for the forsythia shrubs to begin to bloom. Here in the Pontiac Michigan area the forsythia buds are just now starting to swell.

Here is an article that describes the ideal time to put down your pre-emergent, and a link to the GDD tracker tool that will help you determine when your soil is at the Ideal temperature.
