safe lawn weed controller

Asked April 10, 2019, 4:23 PM EDT

Is there any concern about using weed killer and preventer near a well? (We have lots and lots of weeds in our yard). We have a yard (roughly 100x100 feet) that slopes gently down to our house. Near the bottom of the slope is our well, with our house about 20' behind that. Alternatively, are there any products (organic?) that can be safely spread on the lawn to help control weeds. Thanks

If the well head is located in a part of the lawn where chemicals are being applied, it is important that the chemicals not be applied on or adjacent to the well head. The depth of the aquifer is an important factor.
Typically, there is a vertical pipe leading to the aquifer and any space between the pipe and the surrounding soil would allow chemicals to move downward toward the aquifer. In this case, it would be appropriate to avoid applying chemicals near the standpipe.
