Protecting peas and tulips from late blizzard

Asked April 9, 2019, 1:39 PM EDT

Hi, since we are anticipating a large blizzard this week in MN, is there anything I should do to protect the peas seeds I’ve already planted in my vegetable garden? Also, same question for the tulips starting to poke their heads out of the ground. I’m worried about the effect of the ice and the weight of so much snow. Thanks, Tom

Tulips and peas should be fine. Snow is a good insulator and predictions are that temperatures will stay above freezing. There really isn’t much to be done unless you have a hoop house for the peas. Heavy snow will weigh down anything you put over them, if they are a couple of inches high they should not be bothered.
