Lawn thinning and bare spots

Asked April 7, 2019, 5:22 PM EDT

After 30 years, my lawn looks like someone losing their hair. Multiple areas have multiple bald spots of several inches. What is left does not seem all that firmly rooted. I am going to install an irrigation system but want to fix the lawn problem first. I occasionally dethatch and aerate. This seems to have started last year with arrival of Japanese beetles but have no idea if that could be the cause. Thanks.

You are probably right and lawn grubs are the problem. Please see the weblink for the most current advice on how to deal with them.
