funny taste of organic raisins from Uzbekistan

Asked April 6, 2019, 1:05 PM EDT

I bought some 'Smart Harvest' Organic Thompson Raisins from Uzbekistan at a discount grocer. They have not yet reached the Best By date. Although they are drier and smaller than usual for American raisins, they have a funny taste, at least to me, and I wonder if they might contain some chemical or other contaminant. If such raisins have been suspected of contamination, would I be able to learn of it online, and would Cooperative Extension be aware of a free service to test the raisins for contamination? I've kept the packaging and have most of the original one-lb.

We are unaware of such a service. Our recommendation for foods that you are unsure of is, "when in doubt, throw it out."
