Compost and roses

Asked April 5, 2019, 6:45 PM EDT

Is it early enf to add compost to the roses, how much is recommended for an established bush. (All floribundas) Also, should one add bone meal to the compost and if so, how much for the same bush. Thanks

Add 1-2 inches of compost at the base of your roses. I would wait until the nights are in the 50’s so the mulch doesn’t keep the soil cooler. It isn’t necessary to add bone meal because Hennepin county soils are high in phosphorus. It won’t hurt if you want to add some bone meal because the rose won’t take it up if it doesn’t need it. https://pss.uvm.edu/ppp/articles/growroses.html
