Bush hedge mulching

Asked April 5, 2019, 6:15 PM EDT

I have 5 holly bushes/trees in a row that are over 10 feet tall and pretty full. Given the fullness (ground beneath them stays pretty shady), is there any need to mulch anymore, other than aesthetic reasons?

Hollies actually self-mulch pretty well, since they drop a lot of leaves each spring and the leaves decompose so slowly they create their own mulch bed. You do not need to mulch.
