If you found this spider in Indiana as your question is tagged, then I would say this is a northern black widow. They sometimes have red splotches on the top of the abdomen that can converge into a line.
Black widows can pose a health hazard. You should not touch this specimen as if you are bitten it can be quite painful. They do not pose a lethal hazard really though.
