Mold on Pine Stump

Asked March 30, 2019, 8:37 PM EDT

What type of mold/fungi is this on a Pine tree stump located at my parent's in Southern California?
Smooth outside, very thin surface/crust, dusty powder inside (looks like cinnamon)

Oregon fungi protozoa

Thank you for your question. We believe this is not a mushroom/mold/fungus, but, instead, a protozoa (a different kingdom from fungi). It is called a 'false puffball,' and resembles a puffball. Here is a description: https://mushroomobserver.org/name/show_name/5351

Hope this is helpful!
