How do I transplant my blueberry bushes? Can I dig them up now?

Benton County Oregon blueberries

Thanks for contacting Ask An Expert. The best time to transplant blueberries is during the dormant season. Right now the plants are actively growing and producing flower & leaf buds. Transplanting now will cause plant stress and likely reduce or eliminate any fruit this year. Please take a look at the planting details in this OSU Extension publication called Growing Blueberries in Your Home Garden. It has extensive details and is available free online here: If you still have questions, you can contact the OSU Extension Benton County Master Gardeners. The volunteers can help give you specific instructions over the phone or in person. Their contact information can be found here: Happy Gardening!
