Which variety of grape is best suited for the conditions in southern Holmes county? I am looking to grow my own grapes for home made wine, semi-sweet.

Holmes County Ohio

Hi There,

Good to hear from you! It is hard to suggest just one. Some of the suggested grape cultivars are Catawba, Chambourcin, Concord, Frontenac, Mars Seedless, and Noiret, You can also try Cab Franc. However, it is not cold hardy in Ohio.

You may want to purchase a copy of the Midwest Home Fruit Production Guide from your local extension office (OSU Extension bulletin, #940.)

Happy gardening!
