Plantings on north side

Asked March 27, 2019, 11:31 AM EDT

Hello,
I am redoing my landscaping and want to plant blooming perennials on the north side of the yard against a wooden fence. In the past climbing roses were there, but have died out over the years. I am looking for something bird and butterfly friendly.

Thanks in advance

Hello there,

Since your plant will be growing on the north side of a fence, you should select ones that will do best partial sun. Here are a couple of sites that you may find useful.

The first site is Plant Select. From the home page under the "plants" tab, select "find a plant." From there you can select your requirements to find your best plants. https://plantselect.org/

Here is an additional link. It is a list of perennials for our area. Again, I would recommend the plants in the sun to part shade category. https://extension.colostate.edu/docs/pubs/garden/07405.pdf

Finally, any reputable nursery can offer additional suggestions.

Have fun and good luck.
