ficus bonsai tree

Asked March 26, 2019, 8:57 PM EDT

Does my ficus bonsai tree need to be repotted? The current pot seems to be too full and roots are showing on the surface. I can barely move the soil around to add fertilizer.

Thank you for your question. Actually, your plant appears to be in exactly the correct sized container. I am not certain whether you have pruned the roots, as well as the foliage, but keeping them both small allows them to remain in the same container--often for decades. Here is an article on caring for this plant, which I hope is helpful: https://web.extension.illinois.edu/dmp/palette/091011.html

Good luck!
