Just bought an apricot from home Depot

Asked March 20, 2019, 8:40 PM EDT

It's spring and I went to home Depot and they had apricot tree's and I wanted to get my father one for his birthday , but while I was looking the tree's over I noticed sap leaking from all of the trees that were there, is this normal or should I take the tree back and inform the store they have a shipment of sick trees?
Ps , now there was another home Depot I was looking at the same trees and I don't think I saw any sap coming from them.

Thank you for your question. Without a photo of the ‘sap leaking,’ it is difficult to diagnosis the problem. I suspect they have gummosis, described here: http://utahpests.usu.edu/uppdl/files-ou/factsheet/apricot-pests.pdf But, a positive diagnosis requires a direct examination. Suggest you pass on the leaking ones. Good luck!
