That is a grand old tree.

Given it's proximity to the house and the damage it could cause if it were to fall, we absolutely recommend having an onsite evaluation by a certified arborist.
These are tree health experts credentialed by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), not just tree cutters.

Most larger tree companies employ them, and you can also search for one at www.treesaregood.org.
It would be good to have more than one evaluation and compare.
