pruning spring euonymus and crab apple

Asked March 20, 2019, 2:18 AM EDT

Is it ok to prune euonymus and crab apple up to leaf out. How late is too late? The crab apple branchesa are up to 5 inches in diameter on 30 plus year old trees. I know earlier is better but how late is acceptable

Pruning of crab apple trees is recommended prior to any bud or leaf growth. Euonymus pruning timeline follows the same recommendation. With the current warm up that means pruning must occur now. https://extension.umn.edu/fruit/growing-apples
