Yellowing palm

Asked March 3, 2019, 2:54 PM EST

Hi! I got this plant from my brother as he was hoping I can bring it back to life. The ‘bulb’ looks dry and the leaves are yellowing. Can I bring this plant back to life? Do I cut the yellow palms off? Thank you

Thank you for your question. Your sago palm could be suffering from a variety of problems and, since you may not know what type of care your brother gave it, it is just a 'try and see' approach. Here is an article on this plant and the several issues that can cause yellowing: https://ucanr.edu/datastoreFiles/268-79.pdf I suggest you fertilize, follow those directions about watering and light, and don't remove any foliage until you see whether your first aid works. Good luck!
