Blue spruce snow cover

Asked February 18, 2019, 9:48 AM EST

I have a Colorado spruce dwarf about ten feet tall it is adjacent to my driveway and walkway to my front door. Snow around it can be four feet deep or more and the branches have many inches of snow on them. Should I remove the snow on the branches? What about removing snow around the base of the tree?

The snow at the base of the tree can be left. If heavy, wet snow falls on the branches and causes them to bend gently knocking the snow off is helpful. Bent branches will eventually straighten up but it’s better to prevent them bending a noticeable amount or allowing them to stay bent.
