2nd crop of figs?

Asked February 15, 2019, 2:37 PM EST

My fig tree sets a second crop of figs, but these never seem to mature. They drop off when still small & a long way from maturity. The tree is about 10-11 years old, and seems quite healthy otherwise.

Thank you for your question. Depending on where you are in Polk County, and the microclimate in which your tree is planted, the temperatures may get too low in the fall for the second crop of this heat-sensitive plant to ripen. Here is an Extension article with all the facts you need to grow a healthy tree: https://extension.oregonstate.edu/news/dont-be-fooled-figs-grow-fine-western-oregon

Hope this is helpful. Good luck!
