Sprouting seeds

Asked January 22, 2019, 3:48 PM EST

My sprouts are very legging. I’m Wondering if there’s a class about sprouting seeds, or someone can help me. I do have a heated green house and wish to grow vegetables indoors in the winter time. Thanks v

Lack of light even in a greenhouse can lead to leggy seedlings. The only way to improve this is to use lights which will allow the plants to grow normally. Artificial lighting needs to be about 4 inches from tops of plants. A light fixture hanging from chains can be raised as plants grow. For more information on lights see Extension information from the University of Minnesota on Starting seeds indoors and click on section on lighting. https://extension.umn.edu/planting-and-growing-guides/starting-seeds-indoors#light-1179611
