Starting seeds indoors

Asked January 14, 2019, 5:51 PM EST

Live near Pontiac Michigan. I’ll plant tomatoes, eggplant and a variety of squash. When should I start the seeds so plants are ready by May. And how do I keep the weeds down in the garden. Thanks, Joe

Joe,

If you have the seed packets, there will be information on those packets telling you how many weeks before planting to start them indoors.

These crops need to be planted after the danger of frost has passed; you may find your average last frost date here: https://www.plantmaps.com/interactive-michigan-last-frost-date-map.php

Once planted, watch the weather for the possibility of a late frost so you can provide protection, if necessary.
