Succession Gardening with Garlic

Asked January 7, 2019, 3:31 PM EST

Hello, I am a new gardener. I got very excited last October and planted a WHOLE bed of garlic. I think the bed is 7'x3'! I thought I would be able to harvest in April but I've been reading it's more like June and July. I'm pretty sad that I'll miss the May planting so I would like to know how to maximize this bed. (1) Can I plant anything in between the rows of garlic (spaced 4"-6" apart) or will that take away from the growth/nutrients? (2) What's best to put in after I harvest the garlic? A warm weather crop OR a cool weather fall crop? Thanks so much!

I am giving you a couple links. The first one regards growing and harvesting your garlic. It also tells you how to tell when it may be time to pull it and then how to store it for later use. https://extension.umn.edu/vegetables/growing-garlic#choosing-garlic-varieties-867460

The next link is a listing of vegetables that could be planted after you harvest your garlic. There isn't anything that could be planted in the small space between rows before then. https://extension.umn.edu/planting-and-growing-guides/planting-vegetables-midsummer-fall-harvest
