Soil testing - Polk County Oregon

How much does it cost to have soil tested if I bring in a combined sample of 10-15 areas of my yard’s soil? Also does the lab that you send sample to not only analyze ph but other properties such as nitrogen levels?

Great questions! There are many soil laboratories you can send off a combined sample to. You can find a list of all the soil labs serving Oregon on this handy dandy list: https://catalog.extension.oregonstate.edu/em8677. Each lab has different charges for their services. You can discover these by calling around or checking their websites.

You'll notice that this guide indicates whether the labs test for things like heavy metals, contaminants, etc. Most soil labs have a variety of options for what to sample for. pH, nutrient levels, and Cation Exchange Capacity are standard on most tests. I would recommend requesting the graphical report, because graphs help to visualize what your soil needs and has in abundance. You can check out an example of this graphical report attached.
