Planting an Eastern Redbud Tree

Asked January 4, 2019, 9:17 AM EST

How close can an Eastern Redbud be planted next to my house without having problems from it's growth?

Prince George's County Maryland plant care trees cercis canadensis

The most important factor is to plan for the mature size of the tree.
Redbuds are small trees. Check your cultivar name, but most Redbuds will mature to 20' to 30' tall and 25' to 35' wide.
Ten to 15' away is fine, but if you don't want it to touch the house at all, 20 or more would be even better.
Be sure to consider what/how the mature tree will frame your home or block views both of your home and out of your windows from within.
