Did gas leakage kill my tree?

Asked December 31, 2018, 12:33 PM EST

I suspect an underground gas leak may have killed my tree and at least one other perennial in my yard. What is the best way to find out? Who will/can conduct an accurate assessment? If gas is the culprit is the gas company obligated to pay for the tree removal?

If you suspect a gas leak, you will have to contact your gas company. They can run meter tests to check for a leak. The following page on our website describes the symptoms you would see if a gas leak is the culprit. https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/topics/natural-gas-injury

There may be other causes for the death of your tree and perennial plant, so it is unlikely that the gas company would assume responsibility.
