If I freeze Walla Walla onions; how long will they keep?

Coos County Oregon

You can freeze onions up to a year if they are well packaged. I would suggest that you blanch (cook a short period of time in boiling water) drain and cool immediately. For chopped onions 1-1/2 minutes. Larger pieces a little longer.

As long as the onions are well wrapped and stored in a freezer 0 degrees F. or below they will keep well. It is quality not safety. They will be more watery than fresh but work well in cooked dishes.
