Is the ‘Cleveland Select’ variety of Callery pear invasive?
My community is in the process of planting street trees and they have selected flowering pear trees of the ‘Cleveland Select’ variety. I asked them to choose a different tree (preferable native) as we have several natural, wooded areas throughout the community and I would hate to see those natural areas taken over by flowering pear trees. The nursery who has sold the trees to our HOA insists that this variety is not invasive. I beg to differ, as I believe all Callery pears are invasive. Please advise. Thank you!

You are correct.
We would not encourage the planting of pears.
