Willow fungus

Asked November 30, 2018, 9:45 AM EST

I have a 50-year-old spiral Willow that has an unusual growth on it. I would like to send you a picture of it and tell me what you think. I really do like the tree but if it's dangerous and not going to live It's in the middle of a major subdivision and I would be concerned about the safety. Please let me know and thank you very much for your time Mr. Jerry Thorne

Good morning, Mr. Thorne,
Thank you for sending the pictures of your tree. Usually when a fungus appears the tree is in distress. You didn't mention what condition the tree is in. Is the canapy full and still thriving? If not and the tree is important to you, I would recommend calling a certified arborist in your area.

Thank you for using Ask an Expert. If I can be of anymore help to you let me know. Good luck!
