Doug Fir Beetle
Last year, I had to have a Doug Fir removed from my property. The tree was dying from infestation by the Doug Fir Beetle. It seems these bugs have moved into my home. Can they destroy my home like they did that big tree?
Douglas-for beetles don’t tend to ingest homes because they are attracted to trees that are still alive, but weakened. The lumber in your home is long dead and not hospitable for Douglas-fir beetle larvae. That being said, there are other insects that tend to move indoors for the winter. None of them do damage to the structure of your home except termites. If you can catch one take a picture or bring it in to the extension office at 996 Jefferson st in Eugene and get a master gardener to ID it for you. We are open M-Th 10-1 and 2-5.
