Age of Juniper
My new house has a 40 ft juniper with the main trunk of about 16 in circumference . Can anyone tell me how to tell how old it is?
Santa Barbara County California
Thank you for your question. I am assuming you are referring to the California juniper (Juniperus californica) described here: https://selectree.calpoly.edu/tree-detail/juniperus-californica It gives these trees growth patterns in height, rather than diameter, so if you can estimate the tree's height, you can use the "one to two feet per year" to estimate its age. I hope this is helpful. Good luck!
