Premature Amaryllis sprouting

Asked November 23, 2018, 2:17 PM EST

I recently purchased an amaryllis bulb, and when I brought it home and opened the box I found that the bulb had already sprouted. The sprout is approximately 12" long but is curled up like a snake since it could not penetrate the lid of the box.

.Will it eventually straighten itself out, or should I cut it off and hope that another sprouting will take its place?

Good evening,
Sometimes when a sprout is removed the bulb is enjured so in this case I would advise to leave the sprout growing and if needed gently stake it up if necessary. I'm sure other sprouts will appear soon. Remember that light is very important and do not overwater.
