Fungus knats are pests that thrive in excess moisture with an abundance of organic debris. A generation can be produced in as little as 17 days when conditions are perfect. Eggs can hatch in 3 days at 75 degrees. There are 4 instars of the pupa stage so that takes roughly 10 days. Larvae and adult in 4 more days. Adding more perlite or sand to the planting mix can help control the knats. Don't overwater and make sure there is good drainage for the pots. Allow the surface to dry out between waterings.
