Squirrels and fruit trees

How can I protect my fruit from squirrels. Netting the trees is not practical.

I would recommend wrapping the trunks in 2-ft wide metal in a band about 6ft from the ground - Essentially you're creating a climbing-proof, slippery collar around the tree that should keep the squirrels from being able to reach the canopy. If the squirrels are "parachuting in" or climbing into the fruit trees from adjoining non-fruiting trees, trimming branches to break the travel connection will also be necessary.
