Safe to use diseased leaves as compost

Asked November 8, 2018, 6:29 PM EST

I usually shred my leaves and spread them over my garden. This year with all the rain, the leaves on my maple and river birch trees are spotted and look diseased. is it still OK to put them on my garden

Yes, you should be o.k. to shred them and use them.
The unusually wet year did make for leaf diseases on some shade tree to thrive.
The leaves should break down fine and not threaten your garden.
