Broadleaved evergreens are best planted in the spring. These plants can be affected by cold temperatures. Otherwise, they should be planted in the early fall. They will have to be watered deeply. Make sure mulch is no thicker than several inches and keep away from the base of the trunks. Be sure to keep all newly planted trees and shrubs well watered throughout the first year, even in the winter. But do not water when the ground is frozen.
