Fig bush

Asked October 25, 2018, 12:53 PM EDT

I have several unripened figs on the plant, With the frost we have had I know they won't ripen. Should I remove them or let them remain to fall naturally? To protect the bush over winter I was going to cover it with a large black plastic bag. Good?

It will not have significant impact on your fig tree whether you remove the unripened figs or not.

Using a black plastic bag to winterize your fig will probably not be enough protection. There are several alternatives provided here (be sure to watch the video, too): https://extension.umd.edu/hgic/topics/figs
