Foundation plants are dying

Asked October 24, 2018, 11:38 AM EDT

Sections of my “shrubs” are totally drying up then the leaves fall off. I don’t want to lose them. What do you suggest? Thank you. Eileen Smith. 203-247-3165

We viewed your photos. This does not look like boxwood blight. This looks like volutella, a fungal disease. Boxwood are subject to many disease and insect problems. For information as well as other diseases please see the following information from our website, http://extension.umd.edu/hgic/boxwood-culture-and-diseases-including-boxwood-blight

The most serious disease is boxwood blight. There are specific symptoms that differentiate this disease from other boxwood diseases. For information on boxwood blight go to the following link on our website http://extension.umd.edu/hgic/invasives/boxwood-blight
Have you or your neighbors planted any new boxwood recently? As this is how boxwood blight is introduced into landscapes. Do you have landscape companies taking care of your property? There are specific symptoms that differentiate this disease from other boxwood diseases. Look for defoliation, stem cankers, etc.
You can get back to us with more information regarding the above.
