Brown needles on blue spruce

Asked October 24, 2018, 8:06 AM EDT

Our blue spruce has brown needles despite lots of rain this year. It has also lost needles. What should we do to help it?

The spruce in the photo looks mature. They are shaded, overgrown, crowded, and have lost their ornamental value. They will lose their needles in this site.
There is nothing that you can do to reverse this other than pruning dead wood.

We recommend replacing with plants that match the site, sun versus shade as well as mature height and width.
